Manchester United fans had another weekend to savour with a 1-0 win over Tottenham at Wembley on Sunday.
But that didn’t stop fans from taking to social media to send a clear message to caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as they eye January signings.
They needed a goalkeeping masterclass from David De Gea to secure their Spurs success and make it six straight wins under Solskjaer.
Supporters appear to be almost unanimous in their view that a new central defender is required to take their rejuvenated side to the next level.
Phil Jones, in particular, was singled out for plenty of criticism following a below-par display.
One fan stated that if they could “put a world class centre back in for Phil Jones we’re laughing”, whilst another added the club needed to “just ship him out and bring in Koulibaly/Skriniar”.
He was also blasted as a “passenger” as another fan stated: “Phil Jones cannot be the long-term answer at CB”.
Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly is the man most United fans appear to have their heart set on.
The 27-year-old is said to be top of their shortlist and could look to push for a move to Old Trafford in January as they prepare to pay big money for his services.
Milan Skriniar is another rumoured target from Inter Milan, although coach Luciano Spalletti insisted he’ll be going nowhere as “nobody can afford him”.
Regardless of who United are able to bring in this transfer window, it appears fans are generally in agreement that they need to seek an upgrade on Jones to shore up their defence and take some pressure of De Gea.
